The fairy tale got two things wrong. The first was colour. the hood wasn’t red. The woods were. Red were the leaves, red were the trees, and red was the soil they grew from. And they cast all things that walked within them red. All things but the girl. So when the wolf came prowling, he saw a world stained crimson like dripping meat and thought to himself, “Surely I will find something to eat here. Oh look, a girl!” The second thing the fairy tale got wrong was the woodcutter. He never existed. There was only the girl, eager to show the wolf how she kept her woods so red.
